On Sunday night, May 1, we successfully shifted traffic from I-84 EB onto half of the westbound roadway across the new WB Rochambeau Bridge utilizing median crossovers on each end. This enables demolition to the eastbound bridge superstructure (deck and steel beams).
During the past week of May 2, we constructed an access road from Fish Rock Road to the eastern (Southbury) side of the bridge, set up barges for accepting demolition debris and began mobilization of equipment for upcoming demolition.
Next week, during the week of May 9, the Eastbound bridge demolition will begin.
- The navigation channel will be closed periodically between May 1 and May 15 as demolition of the bridge deck over the channel occurs.
- The sidewalk over the Eastbound bridge has been closed for the demolition of the bridge and will not reopen until Spring of 2023.
