Both directions of I-84 are now utilizing the new Westbound bridge (separated by concrete barrier curb).  This enables demolition of the Eastbound bridge superstructure (deck and steel beams).

This past week of May 9,  we completed construction of access roads: from Fish Rock Road to the eastern (Southbury) side of the bridge, and from Underhill Road to the western (Newtown) side, so workers can safely access the work areas.

Bridge demolition has begun and will continue over the coming weeks; this includes the removal of the asphalt wearing surface and partial demolition of the parapet.

During the week of May 15, demolition of the Eastbound bridge will continue.

Ongoing notices:

  • The navigation channel will be closed periodically through May 20 as demolition of the bridge deck over the channel occurs.
  • The sidewalk over the Eastbound bridge has been closed for the demolition of the bridge and will not reopen until Spring of 2023.
